In sheep, Pregnecol is administered at cessation of treatment with a progesterone device.

  • eCG has FSH and LH activity promoting growth of the ovulatory follicle, and development of the CL having beneficial effects on embryo growth and survival.

  • It will increase ovulation rates and induce oestrus in anestrous animals.

  • Treatment of cows with eCG results in a larger follicle at the time of AI.

SHEEP: Oestrus induction and increased ovulation rates

Injection of 400 to 800i.u. Pregnecol at the time of cessation of treatment with progestagen, dosage generally in the range 400 to 500i.u. but not less than 400i.u.

GOATS: Oestrus induction and increased ovulation rates

Injection of 200 to 500i.u. Pregnecol at the time of cessation of treatment with progestagen. Dosage is generally in the range 200 to 400i.u.

CATTLE: Anoestrus

Injection of 400i.u. Pregnecol at time of cessation of treatment with progestagen.

PIGS: Anoestrus

Injection of 500 to 1500i.u. Pregnecol to gilts or sows. Anoestrus during lactation: Injection of 1000 to 2000i.u. Pregnecol 10 or more days after farrowing followed 3 to 4 days later by injection of 500 to 1000i.u. hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin). Prolonged weaning to mating intervals: Injection of 1000 to 2000i.u. Pregnecol at weaning.

BITCH: Anoestrus

Injection of 100 to 500i.u. Pregnecol per kg bodyweight at 7-day intervals until oestrus occurs, followed by injection of 500 to 1000i.u. on day 4 of oestrus. Or daily injections of 20i.u. Pregnecol per kg bodyweight over 10 days followed by injection of 500 to 1000i.u. S.C. on day 10.

Anoestrus is often caused by inadequate management (feeding and housing), therefore optimum management is a prerequisite for effective treatment.
